High School Branches
History & Philosophy
Saugus Federal Credit Union has been a leader in the credit union industry and in our community in educating young adults on the fundamentals of financial savings, budgeting, and management.
 |
Lynn Vocational Technical H.S. |
SFCU launched the high school program in January 1987 with the creation of our first high school branch at Northeast Vocational Technical High School in Wakefield, MA. Our second high school branch was established at Saugus High School soon after, and our third school branch was most recently opened in September of 2002 at Lynn Technical High School, Lynn, MA. SFCU pioneered the creation of a credit union branch program and collaborated with the schools to have it incorporated into the school?s curriculum. Best of all, students earn academic credit just like any other course.
How Does It Work?
Students enroll in the program, earning academic credit while gaining valuable work experience and a better understanding of financial matters. A Saugus Federal Credit Union employee supervises the branch at all times. Our supervisors not only oversee the day-to-day operations of the branch, but also train students, open new accounts, accept loan applications, and enroll members in other credit union services.
Each credit union branch is conveniently located in the high schools where teachers, students, and school faculty members can transact their financial needs right from work.
Future Career Opportunities
Our high school program has been very successful and we are very pleased to have many of the students move to full time or part time employment positions at our credit union main office. Each year, we have hired students to work part time for us, as well as, students participating in paid internships. We have seen many students complete college while working part time and move on to promising careers but we are especially proud of those students who have developed and grown with the credit union in management positions today.
